The Norway international offshore oil and gas exhibition is held every two years in Stavanger city in August. It gathers many international excellent equipment suppliers and attracts professional buyers from oil-producing countries, introduces the latest technologies and equipment of the global petroleum industry, and also holds special lectures and seminars during the exhibition. The exhibition was held for the first time in 1974. It is the largest oil and gas exhibition with the longest exhibiting history in Europe. The exhibition and the British offshore oil exhibition are both the second largest oil exhibition in the world.
Norway is an important oil industry country in Northern Europe, and the relevant science and technology level driven by the oil industry is leading the world.
After the discovery of oil on the Norwegian continental shelf in the late 1960s, the exploitation of the oil industry became the main driving force for Norwegian economic development. Since the beginning of oil production in the early 1970s, the scale of oil production has increased significantly. Now Norway has become the sixth largest oil producer in the world and the third largest oil exporter in the world only next to Saudi Arabia and Russia. After the 1970s, due to the exploitation of the northern seas Oilfield, the exhibition city Stavanger became the maintenance and logistics support base for oil and gas field facilities and vessels. At present, the city has become Norway’s famous “North Sea Oil City”. The Norwegian National Bureau of Statistics said in its monthly update report in March 2012 that Norway’ s oil and gas investment this year hits a record high of 186 billion Norwegian kroner ($33.3 billion) driven by high oil prices. There is a 27% increase over last year.
